Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about how we work, what's included in a plan set, and how XALA Designs fits into a pool or backyard build in the Rio Grande Valley.
Frequently asked
Who runs XALA Designs?
XALA Designs is led by Alberto Vasquez, a residential drafter based in Brownsville with four years of experience drafting plans for many of the Rio Grande Valley's luxury homes. Every plan is drawn by Alberto in AutoCAD — not handed off to templates or junior staff.
What's the difference between a pool designer and a pool builder?
Builders pour the concrete and install the equipment. Designers (drafters) draw the plans that builders work from — with the dimensions, setbacks and code annotations the permit office needs. XALA is the drafter, not the builder. Many of the Valley's pool builders have used our plans on their projects.
What cities do you serve?
All of the Rio Grande Valley — Brownsville, McAllen, Edinburg, Mission, Pharr, Harlingen, Weslaco, San Benito, Mercedes, Los Fresnos, Port Isabel, South Padre Island and the surrounding area.
Are your plans city-approved?
Plans are drawn with the dimensions, setbacks, structural notes and code references your city's permit office requires. They're built for approval — the city is the one who actually issues the permit.
Do you build the pool too?
No — we design. We hand the plan set directly to your builder, or refer one if you don't have one yet. We stay available to answer their questions during construction at no extra charge.
How long does a pool design take?
Standard pool plans take roughly 2–4 weeks. Custom and luxury plans take 4–8 weeks depending on revisions and complexity. Rush turnaround is available.
What do you need to start?
A lot survey or plat map, a few photos of the space, rough measurements and any inspiration pictures. Don't have all of that? Send what you do have — we can work with little.
What's the difference between Standard, Custom and Luxury?
Standard is a clean rectangular/oval layout. Custom is freeform shapes with integrated spas, sun shelves and benches. Luxury covers infinity edges, vanishing walls, fire bowls, water features and integrated lighting.
